Rohnert Park, California
Rohnert Park is a town located in Sonoma County with a population of just under 50,000. It lies 50 miles north of San Francisco and is only a 30 minute drive to the Sonoma Coast. Each one of Rohnert Park’s neighborhoods was designed around an elementary school and a park.
1. Schools
Students living in Rohnert Park attend the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District. The district has six elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, one K-8 school, and a TK-12th grade online, independent study program. Sonoma State University is also located in Rohnert Park.
2. Restaurants and activities
If you are looking for a delicious Vietnamese meal, try Simmer. Their vermicelli bowl with grilled pork is to die for. Another great lunch or dinner option is Amy’s Drive Thru, an organic, vegetarian, fast-food restaurant with the best french fries and milkshakes I have ever tasted. They also have salads, burritos, veggies burgers, and pizza. This is one of my kids’ favorite restaurants.
Rohnert Park is full of fun activities for the entire family. Play a round of mini golf at Scandia Fun Center. Everyone enjoys a good trampoline and there are many to be found at Rebounderz Indoor Trampoline Park.
3. History
The coastal Miwok once lived in the area now known as Rohnert Park. In 1844, the Mexican government granted the land, known as Rancho Cotate, to Captain Juan Castaneda. The land grant was later sold and then broken up into smaller ranches.
Rohnert Park is named after the Rohnert family, which once owned a seed farm in the area. Starting in 1957, Rohnert Park started to be built up as a planned city. It was incorporated in 1962.
